Officially opened on 21 Jan 2003, HORC has been providing the physical rehabilitation services including prostheses, orthoses, crutches, wheelchairs, physiotherapy services, MHPSS support to the services users from HORC coverage areas.
Since 2014, HORC has provided mobile repair services throughout its coverage area to maintain the lifespan of the provided devices. Service users requiring major repairs or new assistive devices are referred to the centre for comprehensive assessment and necessary services. The mobile team also identifies new individuals in need of rehabilitation services and refers them to HORC for appropriate services.
In 2015, HORC introduced a community-based repair service through trained community repairmen to provide minor repair services within local communities. This initiative enables service users to access timely repairs closer to their homes, reducing travel time and transportation costs while improving the accessibility and continuity of rehabilitation service.
As part of its social inclusion efforts, HORC has organized and facilitated weekly and annual Paralympic sports activities and events, including wheelchair basketball, amputee football, and other adaptive sports, to promote the participation and inclusion of persons with disabilities. Since 2023, with the support of the ICRC, HORC has been implementing the Micro Economic Initiatives (MEI) project to strengthen the livelihoods of persons with disabilities. In 2024, HORC also launched an education support program for children with disabilities.
Since the centre began operations in 2003, a total of 10,307 service users have been registered, 14760 prostheses, 1646 orthoses, 988 wheelchair and 22423 walking aids have been provided at HORC as of the end of June 2026.
