Our Movement Partners

International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has been actively engaged in Myanmar since 1991, when it deployed a relief delegate for fire relief operations in Meiktila, Mandalay Region. This initial collaboration paved the way for a stronger partnership, leading to the establishment of the IFRC office in Myanmar in 1993. The office was set up to provide long-term support to the Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) in its humanitarian efforts.

The IFRC offers both financial and technical assistance to MRCS in several critical areas:

Disaster Management

This includes community and school-based disaster risk management initiatives and the establishment and maintenance of an Emergency Management Fund to ensure effective response during crises.

Community-Based Health and Water and Sanitation

The IFRC supports programs aimed at improving health outcomes and ensuring access to clean water and sanitation facilities for communities.

Organizational Development

The IFRC plays a crucial role in capacity-building within MRCS, focusing on:

Branch Development

Strengthening the operational capabilities of local branches.

Youth and Volunteer Management

Engaging and empowering young volunteers to contribute to humanitarian efforts.

Finance Development

Enhancing financial management practices within MRCS.

Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting (PMER)

Improving planning and evaluation processes to ensure effective program implementation.

Logistics

Supporting efficient supply chain management and logistics operations.

Human Resource Development

Investing in the training and development of staff and volunteers.

Through this multifaceted support, the IFRC aims to bolster the capacity of MRCS, ensuring it can effectively address the needs of vulnerable populations across Myanmar.

INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE OF THE RED CROSS (ICRC)

For over 30 years, the ICRC, in close collaboration with the Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS), has been providing vital support to communities affected by armed conflicts and violence in Kachin, Kayin, Kayah, Rakhine, Shan states, and the Mandalay region. Together, we respond to both immediate crises and long-term needs. In emergencies, we deliver food and essential supplies to those in urgent need, while in prolonged situations, we work to help families build sustainable livelihoods.

We joint efforts also focus on improving living conditions, ensuring access to clean water, and enhancing healthcare facilities. We raise awareness about landmine risks and promote respect for international humanitarian law.

Additionally, ICRC visit detention centers to ensure humane treatment, reconnect detainees with their families, and support the reunification of separated loved ones. Through this strong partnership with the MRCS, we aim to bring lasting positive change to the most vulnerable communities in Myanmar.

Movement Coordination

The Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) works in close coordination with various partners within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to maximize its humanitarian impact. The Movement Coordination in Myanmar brings together the efforts of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and several National Societies, including:

Each of these partners plays a crucial role in supporting MRCS through financial resources, technical expertise, and operational collaboration. Together, we address pressing challenges such as disaster response, health services, and community development across Myanmar, ensuring a unified and effective humanitarian approach.

In addition to the Movement partners, MRCS also collaborates with key international organizations, including AHA Center, UNOPS, UNHCR, and WFP. These partnerships further strengthen our capacity to provide timely and impactful assistance to those in need, ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches the most vulnerable populations efficiently and effectively.

Through these coordinated efforts and the development of its branches and volunteers, MRCS can better serve vulnerable communities and promote long-term resilience across Myanmar.
