A Mobile Primary Health Care Clinic is a mobilized healthcare facility that brings medical services directly to communities, especially those in remote, underserved areas or hard-to-reach communities. It is designed to provide essential primary healthcare services to individuals who might have limited access to traditional healthcare facilities, private clinic due to geographic, economic, or other barriers and also aim to bridge the gap in healthcare accessibility by reaching populations that have limited or no access to conventional healthcare services. These clinics are usually housed in vehicles such as buses, vans and fixed places in the community such as church, monastery, and place which is available within community area that have been loaded with medical equipment and staffed with healthcare professionals.

 

Some of the key purposes include:

Provide basic medical care, preventive services, screenings and health education to individuals who are unable to visit fixed healthcare facilities due to various constraints.
Detect and address health issues at an early stage in non-communicable diseases and communicable diseases, which can lead to better health outcomes and reduced overall healthcare costs.
Focus on health promotion and disease prevention by offering screenings, and education about healthy lifestyles.
Assist individuals with chronic illnesses by providing regular check-ups, medication management, and lifestyle counseling.
Offer immediate medical attention for minor injuries and illnesses, reducing the burden on emergency departments.
Provide referral to higher health care facilities at early detection of health emergency that may be beyond the expertise or resources available at the initial healthcare provider's location and prevent delays in diagnosis and treatment, which can significantly impact patient outcomes and recovery.

The effectiveness of Mobile Primary Health Care Clinics largely depends on factors such as the quality of care provided, the qualifications of the healthcare professionals on board, the range of services offered, and community engagement. Research has shown that mobile clinics can have positive impacts, especially in improving access to healthcare for marginalized and remote populations.

In our capacity as the Health Department of the Myanmar Red Cross Society, we have taken the initiative to launch a Mobile Health Clinic as a part of our broader endeavor to extend primary healthcare services to vulnerable communities. This initiative is a part of our comprehensive Access to Primary Health Care Project. Presently, we are actively operating the mobile health clinic within specific project villages located in Lashio, Tangyan, and Namhsan Townships, situated in the Northern Shan State. We are privileged to receive funding support from the Norwegian Red Cross for the implementation of this endeavor.

Our mobile health clinic is designed to provide essential healthcare services directly to the community members within these project villages. We have established the mobile clinic within available community spaces, and it is staffed by a dedicated team of healthcare professionals comprises a medical doctor, a nurse, and a health officer.

The scope of our services encompasses a range of crucial medical interventions. These include administering basic medical care, catering to both non-communicable and communicable diseases. Additionally, we offer diagnostic facilities such as ECG, Doppler USG, and Abdominal USG, thus enabling early disease detection and subsequent timely treatment. Our commitment extends to providing emergency first aid and healthcare services, along with specialized Antenatal and Postnatal Care. Furthermore, we prioritize preventive measures, screenings, and health education to empower the community with the knowledge required for maintaining healthy lifestyles. Our approach also extends to offering psychosocial support, recognizing the vital role mental well-being plays in overall health. We are also embarking on an expansion plan to introduce our mobile health clinic services in the Southern Shan State.
