Hpa-an Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Centre is an orthopaedic centre to supply orthopaedic appliances for persons with physical disabilities. Any persons with physical disability living in HORC coverage areas: Kayin State, Mon State, Tanintharyi Region, Eastern Bago Region and Kayah State, regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity or status (military or civilian) can receive services at HORC.
HORC has run by the Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
  • Providing of assistive devices (prostheses, orthoses, wheelchairs, walking aids) for persons with physical disability living in HORC coverage areas
  • Providing Physiotherapy services, Mental Health & Psycho Social Support (Mhpss), Accommodation, Food and Transportation
  • Summer Children Program for Children during summer school holidays in April and May
  • Providing mobile repair service in HORC coverage areas once a year, referring new service users to the centre for services
  • Providing the minor repair services by the community repairmen who have been received the repairmen training at HORC
  • To increase accessibility of prosthetic treatments for persons with disabilities living in remote and border areas.
  • To increase the country's capacity to provide proper prosthetic treatments.

Officially opened in 21 Jan 2003 and provided the rehabilitation services (prostheses, orthoses, crutches, physiotherapy services, Mhpss support to the services users from HORC coverage areas.
HORC has provided the mobile repair service in HORC coverage area since 2014. For service users who need big repairs and new devices, the mobile team refers to the centre.
In 2015, HORC has implemented the community-based repairmen service for those who need minor repair service in their areas. It is beneficial for the users to get repair services in their areas that saves time and money to come to HORC.
As part of social inclusion, HORC has organized and facilitated the interested service users to participate in the paralympic sports competition, referring to the vocational training schools. Starting from 2023, HORC has started the micro economic initiatives (MEI) project with the support of ICRC.
HORC has been provided to the 9208 service users with 12876 lower limb prostheses, 325 upper limb prostheses, 1127 orthoses, 20135 walking aids, 742 wheelchairs from the beginning of the centre from 2003 up to Sep 2023.
